Truth Tuesday- 1 Timothy 1:2

I know it's not Tuesday (my apologies on being late, stuff came up I will try to do better in the future) but here is the truth for the week.

1 Timothy 1:2
To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.

Paul knew Timothy was real in the faith (not one that he questioned and that "only God reads the heart"), by naming him as a "true son" it was clear Paul wanted the best for Timothy.

He asked for grace from God.  Grace is undeserved favor from the King of Kings.  He wanted Timothy to receive help from God to receive miracles etc.  Imagine how great an honor it is to have favor with the Great and Powerful Creator.

Next he asked for mercy from God.  Mercy for forgiveness from his sins, that God would hold back the hand of wrath and that His judgement would be light.  Mercy, like grace, is also undeserved.  Mercy is hard to understand until it is experienced.  When you receive it, sometimes it may cause shock or the desire to dance.  It feels like there is nothing you can do to repay the person(s) who allow an injustice you committed to slide.  From the outside, it looks like things are unfair, and they are right, but those with authority have the final say (And God is the ultimate authority).

Finally Paul asks for Timothy to be blessed with the peace from God.  Imagine having someone ask that you be free from a disorder, confusion, war, mental anxiety, everything.  Paul wanted Timothy not to worry and know that God had it all in control.  He asked for God to give Timothy a stillness.  Psalm 46:10 says to "be still and know that I am God."

Paul asked in not only God the Father, but also through Jesus, the Lord of whom we serve and owe the debt we can never repay.  He is also illustrating that Jesus has as much power as God the Father Himself (indicating He is God, not just a person with a reputation).
